Y’s Youth Program “Swim, Sports & Play“

The former owner of a Wisconsin landscaping company for over three decades, Arthur Cooper provided mowing and landscaping services, including the creation of rock gardens and koi ponds. Arthur Cooper enjoys volunteering in his free time, engaging with organizations such as the YMCA, and promoting physical fitness among underprivileged children.

Originally named the Young Men’s Christian Association and now also called The Y, YMCA is a leading nonprofit dedicated to connecting people and strengthening the community. The Y focuses on empowering young people locally by improving their health and well-being through programs such as Swim, Sports & Play.

Many children benefit from participating in the Swim, Sports & Play program, which teaches them about becoming and staying active. YMCA partners with The Aspen Institute’s Project Play to offer competitive and recreational programming that is also inclusive of all children.

Besides swimming, diving, and gymnastics, sports offerings at The Y include baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, karate, and flag football. Each YMCA may offer these options for children of all ages, and The Y’s approach to Swim, Sports & Play is guided by the Youth Development Roadmap, which defines critical milestones during a child’s development.
